The AMA has doubled the monthly pay for street sweepers from GH₵400 to GH₵800. This increase is part of an effort to make sanitation work more attractive, professionalise the workforce, and help reduce unemployment in the city.
New monthly allowance: GH₵800 (up from GH₵400) — effectively a 100 % salary hike aimed at improving conditions for sanitation workers under the assembly’s jurisdiction.
Mayor Michael Nii Kpakpo Allotey highlighted that a better wage could draw more young people into the sanitation sector and support the city’s ongoing efforts toward cleaner streets and a 24‑hour sanitation service.
