NDC General Secretary Blames Ghana’s Growing Indiscipline on Fierce Quest for Political Power

The relentless pursuit of political power is fueling indiscipline across the country and weakening national values, according to NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey.

In a strongly worded statement, Kwetey argued that Ghana’s political landscape has become increasingly dominated by the desire to win and retain power at all costs, creating an environment where principles, accountability, and discipline are often sacrificed for political advantage.

According to him, the obsession with political control has permeated various sectors of society, encouraging individuals and institutions to place partisan interests above national development and good governance.

“The excessive focus on political power is contributing significantly to the breakdown of discipline in our society,” Kwetey stressed, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to the country’s democratic growth and social cohesion.

He noted that when political actors prioritize victory over integrity, it sends the wrong signal to citizens, particularly the youth, who may begin to view rules, ethics, and national values as secondary to personal ambition.

Call for a Return to Values

Kwetey called on political leaders, public officials, and citizens alike to embrace a culture of responsibility, patriotism, and accountability. He stressed that Ghana’s progress depends not only on political competition but also on respect for institutions, laws, and ethical conduct.

Political observers say the comments come amid ongoing debates about governance, public accountability, and the role of political parties in shaping national behavior.

Nation First, Politics Second

As concerns grow over rising acts of indiscipline in public life, Kwetey’s remarks have reignited discussions about whether Ghana’s political class is placing too much emphasis on power struggles at the expense of national development.

His message was clear: until leaders put the country’s interests above partisan ambitions, the challenge of indiscipline may continue to undermine Ghana’s quest for progress and unity.
