Former Energy Minister and 2024 NPP Vice Presidential Candidate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has reportedly launched a stunning GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit against TV XYZ, Power FM, and broadcaster Salifu Maase, widely known as Mugabe Maase.
The explosive legal action is said to stem from alleged defamatory statements made against the former Manhyia South MP during a broadcast that has since triggered heated political debate across the country.
According to reports circulating online, NAPO’s legal team argues that the comments made on the media platforms were false, malicious, and deliberately intended to damage his hard-earned reputation and public image.
The suit, reportedly filed at the High Court, is demanding a whopping GH¢20 million in damages for the alleged harm caused to the former minister’s reputation. The case is also said to include demands for retractions and apologies from the media houses and broadcaster involved.
The development has sent shockwaves through political and media circles, with many Ghanaians reacting strongly online over the escalating tensions between politicians and media personalities.
This is not the first time NAPO has pursued legal action over alleged defamatory remarks. In previous years, he successfully won a defamation case against NDC National Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi, where the court awarded damages in his favour.
The latest lawsuit is expected to spark another fierce public conversation about media freedom, political accountability, and responsible broadcasting in Ghana.
As news of the case spreads, supporters of both sides have already begun battling fiercely on social media, with many waiting to see how the high-profile legal showdown will unfold in court.
