Christiana Twene, a well-known gospel singer who goes by the stage name Obaapa Christy, says prayers for gospel musicians rather than criticizing them harshly for their mistakes.
In an interview, she asserts that gospel musicians who use music to preach the word of God are not infallible and that they are just like everyone else in that they are human.
“There is no need to say all sorts of things to dampen their spirits. When gospel musicians’ problems surface, I occasionally hear negative remarks about them, which can be depressing.
“As gospel musicians, we are only human and will inevitably make mistakes as well. Some media people and Ghanaians dwell on the negatives instead of focusing on the positives. What is the point in rejoicing over someone’s downfall?” she questioned.
Taking advantage of the occasion, the “Hyebre Sesafo” hitmaker also advised her peers to value themselves to receive competitive pay, comparable to that of their secular counterparts, who supposedly bargain better rates with event organizers.
“I always say that when you place value on yourself, no event organizer will pay you whatever they want but rather give you what is due you when you are hired to perform. I have done this for over 20 years for anyone to just pay me any amount. I get paid what I am entitled to, and that is because I am valuable,” the woman declared.
