Ghana’s diplomatic push in Europe has received a fresh boost after Ambassador Benedict Batabe Assorow officially presented his Letters of Credence to Croatian President Zoran Milanović, beginning a new chapter in Ghana-Croatia relations.
The ceremony, held in Zagreb, formally accredited Mr Assorow as Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Croatia. He was accompanied by his spouse, Josephine Rosalind Assorow, and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ghana Embassy, Julia B. G. Acolatse.
GHANA CALLS FOR STRONGER PARTNERSHIP WITH CROATIA
During the engagement, Ambassador Assorow called for a deeper and more practical relationship between the two countries, urging both sides to move beyond traditional diplomatic goodwill and focus on partnerships that create tangible benefits for citizens.
He stressed the need for structured bilateral consultations to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including political engagement, economic collaboration, technology, infrastructure, maritime industries, and green energy.
FROM FRIENDSHIP TO STRATEGIC COOPERATION
Ambassador Assorow noted that Ghana and Croatia have enjoyed diplomatic relations for more than three decades, built on friendship, respect, and shared democratic values. He expressed Ghana’s desire to transform those relations into a stronger and more results-oriented partnership.
He also highlighted Ghana’s role as host of the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), describing the country as a strategic gateway for Croatian businesses seeking opportunities in Africa’s expanding market.
A NEW DIPLOMATIC MISSION WITH BIG EXPECTATIONS
The ambassador outlined Ghana’s development priorities, including infrastructure growth, agricultural modernisation, value addition, job creation, and economic transformation, while pointing to possible areas where Croatia’s expertise could support collaboration.
President Milanović welcomed the presentation of credentials and expressed support for continued cooperation between Ghana and Croatia.
As Ambassador Assorow begins his diplomatic assignment, expectations are high that his tenure will help turn decades of friendship into stronger economic and political ties between the two nations.
