Johannesburg, South Africa – Several African countries will continue to enjoy visa-free access to South Africa in 2026, allowing their citizens to enter the country for tourism, business, or other short-term visits without obtaining a visa before travel, subject to the applicable entry conditions.

The visa exemption forms part of South Africa’s bilateral and regional agreements aimed at promoting tourism, trade, and the free movement of people across the African continent.

African countries with visa-free access to South Africa in 2026 include:

  • Angola
  • Botswana
  • Cape Verde
  • Eswatini
  • Gabon
  • Kenya
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Mauritius
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Seychelles
  • Tanzania
  • Zambia
  • Zimbabwe

In addition, holders of diplomatic or official passports from some African countries may also qualify for visa-free entry under separate bilateral agreements.

Travellers are advised to ensure they meet South Africa’s immigration requirements, including possessing a valid passport, sufficient funds for their stay, a return or onward ticket where required, and complying with the maximum permitted period of stay granted at the port of entry.

Authorities also encourage prospective visitors to confirm the latest travel and immigration requirements before departure, as visa policies and entry conditions may change based on bilateral agreements or government directives.

The visa-free arrangements are expected to strengthen regional integration, boost tourism, facilitate business travel, and deepen economic and diplomatic ties between South Africa and its fellow African nations.
