In a dramatic behind-the-scenes confession that has sent ripples through Ghana football circles, newly appointed Black Stars assistant coach Roger de Sa has lifted the lid on the unexpected chain of events that secured him a seat in the national team’s technical dugout.

De Sa revealed that his appointment didn’t come through the usual long negotiation drama—but rather a sudden overnight message from long-time coaching ally Carlos Queiroz.

According to him, the message arrived while he was asleep, instantly changing the course of his career.

“I got the news overnight. I received a message from Carlos Queiroz basically asking if I was up for a big challenge again,” he disclosed.

What followed was a swift conversation that sealed his fate.

The Queiroz factor: A trusted partnership revived

De Sa explained that Queiroz didn’t just inform him about the Ghana opportunity—he directly requested him as part of his technical setup.

The pair, who have worked together across multiple national teams including Egypt and Iran, are now reunited once again on African soil for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup project.

De Sa said the decision was almost instant.

“It was not a very difficult decision to make and accept.”

The South African tactician also revealed that the move escalated quickly after the Ghana Football Association made its decision to bring in Queiroz, who then insisted on his trusted assistant joining him.

Within days, negotiations were completed, travel plans were made, and De Sa was on his way to Accra to begin work.

Now officially part of the Black Stars setup, De Sa admits the job comes with enormous pressure—especially with limited preparation time ahead of the global tournament.

But the veteran coach appears unfazed, embracing what he describes as another “big challenge” in an already extensive international coaching career.

For Ghana fans, the revelation adds another layer to the fast-moving reshaping of the Black Stars technical team—one built on trust, urgency, and a familiar coaching partnership being tested on football’s biggest stage.
