Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has issued fresh updates regarding reports of xenophobic attacks affecting Ghanaian immigrants abroad, with government officials intensifying diplomatic efforts to address the situation.
According to the minister, Ghana has taken immediate steps to engage authorities in the affected country following disturbing reports and viral footage allegedly showing harassment and intimidation of foreign nationals, including Ghanaians.
Ablakwa stated that the government is treating the matter with urgency and seriousness, stressing that the safety of Ghanaian citizens remains a top priority. He confirmed that diplomatic channels have been activated and discussions are ongoing with relevant foreign counterparts to ensure proper protection and accountability.
He further indicated that, so far, no Ghanaian fatalities have been recorded in connection with the reported incidents, although the situation remains under close monitoring as authorities assess developments on the ground.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry has also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Ghanaian nationals abroad are protected under international law, while urging affected citizens to remain calm and maintain contact with Ghana’s diplomatic missions for support and updates.
The issue has once again drawn attention to concerns about xenophobia in parts of Africa and the need for stronger regional cooperation to safeguard the rights and dignity of migrant communities.
