Veteran actress Patience Ozokwor has opened up about the harsh financial realities facing many Nollywood actors, revealing why even seasoned stars sometimes find themselves begging during tough periods.

In a candid interview, Ozokwor described the unpredictable nature of the industry, noting that inconsistent pay, delayed salaries, and lack of formal contracts often leave actors vulnerable. “People see the glamour on screen, but they don’t see the months of struggle behind the camera,” she said.

According to Ozokwor, the problem is systemic: producers frequently prioritize profits over fair remuneration, and with no standardized pay structure, actors are left to fend for themselves when projects fall through or payments are delayed. Even well-known stars aren’t immune.

She also highlighted the lack of savings culture and financial planning among some actors, compounded by societal expectations to maintain a certain lifestyle, which makes economic hardship even more visible.

Ozokwor’s remarks have sparked nationwide discussion, with many Nollywood insiders acknowledging the truth of her statements. Calls are increasing for better regulation, more transparent contracts, and support systems to protect the livelihood of actors in the thriving but volatile Nigerian film industry.
