Tension is mounting in Ghana’s power sector as the government has finally spoken out on the dramatic arrest of four individuals linked to Power Distribution Services (PDS), in a case that is rapidly unfolding into a major financial scandal.

The arrests, carried out last week by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), are tied to the mysterious disappearance of a staggering GH¢850 million belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), government officials have revealed.

According to government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the arrests form part of an ongoing high-stakes investigation into the alleged transfer of massive sums of ECG funds during the controversial PDS concession period.

Explaining the shocking development, the Attorney-General’s spokesperson, Benjamin Alpha, disclosed that the case revolves around a transitional financial arrangement between ECG and PDS that went terribly wrong. Funds that were expected to remain intact during arbitration proceedings reportedly vanished—raising red flags at the highest levels.

Authorities now suspect that the money may have been deliberately depleted from ECG accounts, prompting urgent intervention by investigators. The four suspects were initially invited for questioning but were swiftly detained as the probe deepened.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, officials say the case is still in its early stages. No formal charges have been announced yet, as investigators race to uncover the full chain of events behind the missing millions.

Insiders hint that the arrests could be just the beginning, with more individuals likely to be hauled in as the investigation widens.

With billions of cedis potentially at stake and the integrity of Ghana’s power sector under scrutiny, the nation now watches closely as one of the most explosive financial probes in recent years unfolds.
