Accra, Ghana – The success of the “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” poultry initiative has created a pathway for a major transformation of Ghana’s poultry industry, according to the Minister of Agriculture, who says the programme could trigger a new era of commercial poultry production.
Speaking to journalists, the Minister highlighted the progress made through the initiative, describing it as a key intervention aimed at boosting local poultry production, supporting farmers, and reducing Ghana’s dependence on imported poultry products.
The Minister said the achievements recorded under the programme demonstrate the potential of strategic agricultural interventions to create jobs, improve food security, and strengthen the country’s livestock sector.
The Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative, which focuses on supporting poultry farmers, has attracted attention as government pushes for increased domestic production and greater participation of young people in agriculture.
Industry players have welcomed efforts to expand poultry production but have also called for continued support, including access to affordable feed, veterinary services, financing, and stronger market linkages.
The Minister urged journalists and stakeholders to help promote success stories within the agricultural sector, noting that increased public confidence and investment are critical to building a competitive poultry industry.
With growing demand for poultry products across Ghana, authorities believe the initiative could become a major driver of agricultural growth and help position the country toward greater self-sufficiency.
