Political analyst Prof. Smart Sarpong has called on President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action in response to the recent floods that have wreaked havoc across several communities, urging the government to move beyond emergency interventions and implement lasting solutions.
Reacting to the widespread destruction caused by the floods, Prof. Sarpong stressed that the recurring disaster should serve as a wake-up call for authorities to address the underlying causes of flooding once and for all.
According to him, while relief efforts are essential, greater attention must be given to improving drainage systems, enforcing planning regulations, tackling indiscriminate construction, and investing in resilient infrastructure to protect lives and property.
He urged President Mahama and his administration to prioritize long-term flood prevention strategies, warning that failure to act decisively could leave thousands of Ghanaians vulnerable to similar disasters in the future.
Prof. Sarpong also appealed for stronger collaboration among government agencies, local authorities, and disaster management institutions to ensure swift response, effective recovery, and sustainable solutions.
His remarks come amid growing public concern over the impact of the recent floods, with many citizens calling on the government to implement practical measures that will prevent the annual devastation caused by heavy rains.
