Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has ignited a fresh national debate after declaring that the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) merely postponed, rather than solved, the country’s deep-rooted economic challenges.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review before Parliament, Dr. Forson stated that although the DDEP provided temporary fiscal relief, it failed to address the structural issues driving Ghana’s economic difficulties. According to him, the country must now pursue bold and sustainable reforms instead of relying on short-term debt restructuring measures.
His remarks come amid heightened public interest in Ghana’s economic recovery, with citizens, investors, and policymakers closely watching the government’s strategy for stabilizing the economy, reducing debt, and restoring growth.
Stay tuned for live updates as the Finance Minister outlines the government’s latest fiscal measures, economic outlook, and plans to tackle the nation’s financial challenges.
