Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, 72, was arrested by police on Sunday, November 1, following an intelligence-led operation in the Ashanti Region. A pistol and seven rounds of ammunition were retrieved from him.
The Ghana Police Service has arrested Samuel Christopher Osei Anto, the key suspect in the killing of two relatives at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, in the Greater Accra Region.
The 72-year-old suspect, who had been on the run after the incident, was picked up at his hideout at Tikrom, near Ejisu, in the Ashanti Region, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 2, the Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed the arrest, adding that officers retrieved a Smith & Wesson pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition during the operation.
Police said the team acted on intelligence about the suspect’s whereabouts before proceeding to the hideout to apprehend him. The firearm and ammunition have been retained as exhibits.
Two relatives shot dead at Sakumono
The arrest follows the fatal shooting of George Atugiba, 57, and his niece, Irene Atuguba, 47, at their residence at NTHC Estate, Sakumono, on Friday, October 30.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the incident may have been triggered by a financial dispute involving the suspect and George.
According to the police account, George had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from Osei Anto but failed to repay the amount.
The suspect reportedly visited the victims’ residence on the morning of the incident, accompanied by a 47-year-old woman, Beatrice Mumuni, to demand repayment. A misunderstanding allegedly followed, during which the two relatives were shot dead.
Police investigations continue
Beatrice Mumuni was earlier arrested in connection with the case. Police alleged that she accompanied the principal suspect to the victims’ residence before the shooting.
Osei Anto was subsequently declared wanted, with the Police announcing a GH¢100,000 reward for credible information leading to his arrest.
Following his arrest, the suspect is in police custody assisting investigations. The police have not yet announced when he will be put before court.
The circumstances surrounding the killings remain under investigation, and the allegations against the suspect have yet to be tested in court.
