A major transportation crisis has hit parts of the Central Region after floodwaters completely cut off sections of the Winneba–Cape Coast highway, leaving hundreds of commuters, drivers, and passengers stranded.

The heavy flooding has brought movement along the busy route to a standstill, disrupting travel and raising concerns over the safety of motorists trapped on both sides of the affected stretch.

COMMUTERS TRAPPED AS FLOODS TAKE OVER KEY ROAD LINK

Vehicles were forced to stop as rising waters covered the roadway, making it impossible for many drivers to continue their journeys.

Passengers travelling between Winneba and Cape Coast were left waiting for hours as authorities assessed the situation and explored ways to restore access.

DRIVERS WARNED AS FLOOD CONDITIONS WORSEN

Authorities have cautioned motorists against attempting to cross deep floodwaters, warning that rushing through affected areas could endanger lives and damage vehicles.

Residents in nearby communities have also been advised to remain alert as continued rainfall could worsen the situation.

FLOODING EXPOSES INFRASTRUCTURE CHALLENGES

The disruption has once again highlighted concerns about drainage systems, road construction standards, and the vulnerability of major transport routes during periods of intense rainfall.

Transport operators and commuters are calling for urgent interventions to prevent repeated disruptions along the important coastal corridor.

AUTHORITIES MOVE TO RESTORE NORMAL TRAVEL

Emergency teams are expected to monitor water levels and provide assistance while efforts continue to clear the route and allow traffic to resume.

For hundreds affected by the flooding, the immediate concern remains reaching their destinations safely — as the Winneba–Cape Coast highway faces one of its most difficult moments in recent times.
