The fight against landguard activities has taken a dramatic turn as a court has remanded 13 suspected landguards and sub-chiefs into custody, sending a strong warning to criminal networks operating within the chieftaincy and land sector.

The suspects, believed to be deeply involved in illegal land operations and intimidation, were hauled before the court amid tight security. In a rare concession, only two of the accused were granted bail, while the remaining 13 were ordered to remain in custody as investigations intensify.

Prosecutors argued that the seriousness of the offences and the risk of interference with ongoing investigations necessitated their remand. The court agreed, stressing the need to protect public interest and restore order in affected communities.

The case has reignited public outrage over the menace of landguards and the alleged involvement of traditional authorities, with many calling for tougher action to dismantle the networks once and for all.
