An outspoken supporter of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has sparked fresh debate after defending President Bola Tinubu over the distribution of luxury Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to selected party youth leaders, insisting that poverty and hunger would persist regardless of who becomes president.
In a viral video shared on social media, the woman dismissed criticism surrounding the vehicles, questioning why Nigerians were making an issue of the gesture when the beneficiaries themselves would gladly accept an SUV if offered one.
She described President Tinubu as a politically experienced leader who understands the realities of political competition and is doing everything possible to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
According to her, critics should allow the President to pursue his political strategy rather than condemn every decision taken by his camp.
Her most controversial remark came when she argued that hunger and poverty would not disappear simply because another politician assumed the presidency.
“Even if they bring Peter Obi, hunger won’t finish in Nigeria,” she said, suggesting that Nigerians would continue to complain about economic hardship regardless of who leads the country.
Her comments come amid public outrage over the presentation of seven brand-new 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUVs to selected APC youth leaders by National Youth Leader Dayo Israel.
The vehicles were reportedly provided to support grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. First Lady Oluremi Tinubu subsequently confirmed that she had donated vehicles and other campaign materials to support the party’s youth structure.
The distribution has attracted criticism from Nigerians who have questioned the priorities behind the expensive gifts at a time when many households are struggling with rising living costs.
The APC, however, has defended the provision of campaign vehicles, describing them as logistical support for election mobilisation rather than personal rewards for party loyalists.
The supporter’s remarks have added another dimension to the debate, particularly over political loyalty, economic hardship and public expectations of leadership.
