The Forestry Commission has raised a red flag over the worsening state of the Achimota Forest, warning that the once-thriving urban green belt is increasingly under threat from human activities and unchecked encroachment.

Officials say the iconic forest reserve is steadily losing its ecological integrity, with signs of degradation becoming more visible, sparking fears of long-term environmental damage if urgent action is not taken.

The Commission is sounding the alarm as concerns mount over illegal activities, land pressure, and other factors contributing to the deterioration of the forest ecosystem, which serves as a critical biodiversity and climate buffer for the capital.

Environmental authorities are calling for immediate intervention and stronger enforcement measures to protect the reserve from further destruction, stressing that continued neglect could lead to irreversible loss.

The Forestry Commission is also appealing to the public, traditional authorities, and urban developers to support efforts aimed at safeguarding the Achimota Forest for future generations.
