Accra, Ghana — Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called for justice for victims of electoral violence, urging authorities to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents that threaten Ghana’s democratic stability.

Speaking during activities marking the 47th anniversary of the June 4 Uprising, Asiedu Nketiah stressed the need for the country to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and accountability that inspired the historic event. He argued that victims and families affected by election-related violence deserve closure through impartial investigations and appropriate legal action against perpetrators.

The NDC National Chairman expressed concern over recurring incidents of violence during electoral processes, warning that failure to address such matters could undermine public confidence in Ghana’s democracy. He emphasized that safeguarding the integrity of elections requires not only peaceful participation by citizens but also a firm commitment by state institutions to protect lives and uphold the rule of law.

According to him, the June 4 commemoration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of accountability and good governance. He noted that the ideals associated with the uprising remain relevant today, particularly in the fight against injustice and impunity.

Asiedu Nketiah therefore called on political leaders, security agencies, civil society groups, and electoral stakeholders to work collectively to eliminate violence from Ghana’s electoral landscape. He maintained that democratic progress can only be sustained when citizens are able to exercise their political rights without fear, intimidation, or harm.
