A Nigerian man living in the United States has ignited widespread reactions on social media after making a controversial statement about how relocating abroad drastically changed his daily life and mindset.
In a video that has quickly gained attention online, the man revealed that since moving to America, he no longer spends up to 20 minutes praying every day as he did while living in Nigeria.
According to him, life in the United States offers a level of stability, structure, and predictability that has significantly reduced the constant worries and uncertainties he experienced back home.
The man explained that while residing in Nigeria, he often found himself praying intensely about issues such as electricity supply, security, transportation, employment opportunities, and other day-to-day challenges. However, after settling in America, he claimed many of those concerns became less pressing due to the functioning systems and social infrastructure available there.
“Since I moved to America, I no longer pray for 20 minutes,” he said, suggesting that many of the prayers he once made were tied to survival and overcoming everyday obstacles.
His remarks immediately triggered mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some users agreed with his observations, arguing that effective governance and reliable public services reduce stress and anxiety, others criticized his comments, insisting that prayer should not be dependent on circumstances or location.
Supporters of his viewpoint noted that many Nigerians spend significant time praying about issues that citizens in more developed countries rarely have to worry about. They argued that access to stable electricity, better healthcare, efficient transportation, and economic opportunities can drastically change a person’s daily concerns.
Critics, however, accused the man of exaggerating life abroad and reducing the spiritual importance of prayer to a response to hardship. Some maintained that prayer remains an essential part of life regardless of one’s environment or level of comfort.
As the debate continues online, the man’s statement has once again highlighted the ongoing conversation about governance, quality of life, and the reasons many Nigerians seek opportunities outside the country.
Whether viewed as a blunt reflection of reality or an unfair comparison, his comments have undoubtedly struck a nerve, leaving many people divided over the true impact of living abroad versus surviving the challenges of everyday life in Nigeria.
