Former Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan, has been met with a backlash from the Ghanaian public after launching a campaign to raise funds for comedian, Funny Face.
Gyan had visited Funny Face, sharing details of the encounter on social media, where he revealed he had given the comedian 1000 cedis, but felt more was needed.
Gyan expressed in a post, “I managed to call Funny Face. He poured his heart out to me and I’m so touched. I decided to start a campaign to support the guy with 1000 momo on his number (0244812335)”.
However, his plea for support did not resonate well with some Ghanaians. They questioned why they should raise funds for someone they perceived as ‘irresponsible’.
Many pointed out that they cannot be expected to financially support every celebrity who falls on hard times, alluding to celebrities Hajia Bintu and Tracey Boakye.
“Like the way Hajia bintu and This Actress Tracey are doing show off . So one day in case they go broke Ghanaians will raise money for them?????? We are waiting Nkwaseasem”, one user wrote.
