Where Are the Jobs? — Minority Blasts Government Over Skyrocketing Youth Unemployment

The opposition has fired a salvo at the government over rising youth unemployment, with the Minority in Parliament demanding urgent action to address what they call a “national crisis threatening Ghana’s future.”

In a heated session, Minority leaders accused the government of promises unfulfilled, saying young Ghanaians are struggling to find meaningful employment despite repeated assurances of economic revival.

“Our Youth Are Suffering”

Speaking on the parliamentary floor, the Minority Leader asked pointedly:
“Where are the jobs? The young people of this country cannot wait any longer!”

The criticism comes amid mounting reports of graduates unable to secure work, businesses scaling down, and a growing sense of frustration among the youth. Opposition MPs claim the government’s programs have been too slow, mismanaged, or insufficient to create real opportunities.

Government Defends Its Record

Government spokespeople, however, defended ongoing initiatives such as entrepreneurship support, skills training programs, and investment incentives. They argued that job creation is a gradual process and that structural reforms are underway to stimulate the economy.

Youth Voices Growing Louder

For many young Ghanaians, the Minority’s condemnation echoes everyday frustrations. Social media campaigns, protests, and open letters have amplified the message: the youth want concrete jobs, not just promises.

Political analysts warn that if unemployment persists, it could have serious consequences for national stability, economic growth, and public trust in government.

The Bottom Line

The question posed by the Minority is simple but powerful: Where are the jobs? Until the government provides clear answers and tangible opportunities, the youth and opposition alike say Ghana risks a ticking social and economic time bomb.
