LONDON — The National Union of Ghanaian Students (NUGS) UK has issued a fiery call to the British government, demanding swift action to resolve critical delays in the IELTS examination process and scholarships for international students. With growing frustration among students, NUGS is warning that these delays are wreaking havoc on the academic future of thousands of aspiring scholars.
Amid rising student unrest, NUGS representatives are urging the government to tackle the “unacceptable” backlog in IELTS testing and to urgently streamline the scholarship application process. Students across the UK are now facing an uncertain future, as these setbacks are jeopardizing not only their academic goals but also their ability to remain in the country.
The delays, which have affected hundreds of Ghanaian students, have left many stuck in limbo. Scholarships, which were promised months ago, have yet to materialize, and crucial IELTS test dates remain oversubscribed, forcing students to push back vital application deadlines.
Speaking on behalf of the frustrated students, a NUGS spokesperson declared, “The UK is becoming increasingly hostile to international students. These delays are not only disrupting their education but also their livelihoods. The government needs to act NOW.”
The union’s urgent plea comes as a growing number of Ghanaian students report severe anxiety and financial strain, as they are unable to secure the necessary documentation for visas, university placements, or accommodation.
With no clear timeline in sight for the resolution of the delays, NUGS is calling on UK officials to make it a priority to restore normalcy to the academic landscape before this crisis spirals further.
The pressure is mounting on the government to step in and provide the necessary support, or risk turning a global education destination into a minefield for international students.
Time is running out—will the UK government respond before it’s too late?
