On January 6, 2026, the United States Marshals Service, acting on a warrant issued by the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada, arrested Sedina Tamakloe‑Attionu at her residence in Nevada after she had been identified there by members of the Nevada Violent Offenders Task Force.
Documents released by the Marshals under a Freedom of Information Act request show law enforcement officers positively confirmed her identity when she briefly opened and closed her front door. About half an hour later, officers approached the home to execute the arrest warrant, knocked on the door, and when she answered, she was taken into custody without incident.
She was then placed in detention at the Nevada Southern Detention Centre in Pahrump, where she remains as the legal process continues.
This operation followed a formal extradition request submitted by the Government of Ghana in July 2024 after Tamakloe‑Attionu was convicted in absentia in April 2024 on multiple corruption‑related charges, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, conspiracy, money laundering, and violations of the Public Procurement Act, for which she was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
U.S. authorities have confirmed the arrest and detention signal the activation of judicial cooperation between Ghana and the United States, and a U.S. court is now considering the extradition proceedings to determine whether she will be returned to Ghana to serve her sentence.
