
Over one hundred products have so far been developed under the Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Concept. They include different brands of rice, honey, palm oil, gari and kokonte powder among others. This has helped to link over 14 thousand small scale farmers and processors to markets with a total value addition transaction exceeding 29 million, 687 Ghana Cedis.
The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong who revealed this at this year’s Eastern Commodity Satellite Market Fair held in Koforidua, pointed out that the regulatory bodies like Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Food and Drugs Authority and Ghana Standard Authority played a pivotal role contributing to the success of products developed under the Eastern Commodity Satellite Market.
This he indicated was achieved over the years due to the stringent regulations that has helped the Products to meet International standards and instilling confidence in the country’s global partners.

The Eastern Regional Minister added that the Satellite Market which began three years ago as a proposal and strategy to link small scale farmers and processors for ready Market has become a household name within the agricultural space of the country.
The Eastern Regional Director of Agriculture, Hajia Habiba Yusufu addressing stakeholders observed that the fair has played a strategic role in developing the local economy of the country which helped to boost the country’s revenue at large. This she noted is because the products of the fair does not only cover domestic market demands but ensures the country’s rightful place in the export market.
Hajia Habiba noted that the theme for this year’s fair “Enhancing value addition and export potential through the Eastern Commodity Satellite Market; the role of regulatory bodies” is in line with the implementation of government’s several flagship programmes geared towards improving resilience in the country’s food systems for food security and reliance through sustainable agriculture.
