A 35-year-old spiritualist, Nana Adwoa, has been sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court after being convicted of defrauding a man of GH¢95,100 by promising to secure a chieftaincy title for him. She was found guilty of defrauding by false pretences, operating without registration, and practising without a licence.

The complainant, Abu Douglas, was introduced to Nana Adwoa by a witness who described her as someone with spiritual influence in traditional matters. She allegedly assured Douglas that she could use her purported connections with the Asantehene to have him enstooled as chief of Ntroso, despite the presence of another contender for the role.

Douglas paid various sums totalling GH¢95,100. She also took an additional GH¢51,000 with a promise to spiritually double the funds, which never happened. Douglas even financed a trip to Benin for spiritual fortification, but no ritual was carried out as claimed.

Suspicions arose when Nana Adwoa failed to deliver on her promises and refused to refund the money, prompting Douglas to report the matter to the police. She was arrested on March 9, 2026, and investigations suggested she had used similar tactics to defraud other victims.

The conviction highlights ongoing concerns about fraudulent spiritual practices and the exploitation of vulnerable people in Ghana.
