According to TMZ, Delonte West, a former NBA player, has been detained and is being held on a number of charges.
In Fairfax County, Virginia, police were called to a parking lot at 5:53 PM after witnesses reported seeing West “trespassing” inside a car.
West allegedly acted violently when officers tried to stop him and was difficult to hold. Following his escape, West was eventually apprehended, taken into custody, and charged with four crimes, including trespassing into a car, breaking into a vehicle, eluding law officers, and being intoxicated in public. On October 16, the individual was let go from custody.
As West purportedly prepared for his basketball comeback with Ice Cube’s BIG3 League, the news broke.
A source told TMZ Sports in February that the 38-year-old had also “been speaking to the kids at the academy and handing out advice on hoops” while he was attending the Pat The Rock Basketball Academy in Maryland for training.
The ex-Dallas Mavericks athlete is experienced in dealing with law enforcement. After getting into a drunken argument with Boynton Beach police in October of last year, he had already been taken into custody.
Shortly after it was reported that he had been hired at the Florida recovery facility Rebound, where he had previously been a patient at the request of Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, he was arrested.
“At the time, Cuban told The Washington Post, “I can just affirm that I found him and helped him. “Delonte and his family will decide how to proceed with the remainder,” the statement continued.
