The family of Rex Omar (Rex Kwame Owusu Marfo), who lost his mother on January 4, 2024, will celebrate the mother’s life this Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 8 a.m. at The Page, which is located off of Kaneshie-Mallam Road.

Madam Grace Adwoa Duodowaa, also known as O’Gray, is the mother of Rex Omar. She was born on January 2, 1947, to Opanin Kwasi Boakye and Maama Afia Anane of Asante Būkwai Abɔdɔm and Asɔkɔre.

O’Gray was the fourth of her parents’ five children—four girls and one boy—out of five total. In 1952, she commenced her official schooling at Asekore Methodist Primary and concluded her middle school education with the MSLC in 1962.

Following middle school, she went to Kumasi to study dressmaking and design. It was there that she met Mr. Emmanuel Rexford Owusu Ansah, a medical practitioner, with whom she would eventually get married in 1964.

There were two (2) girls and six (6) boys among Madam Duodowaa’s eight (8) children. On February 6, 1965, she gave birth to her first child, a boy they named Rex Kwame Owusu Marfo, but they called him Rex Omar.

O’Gray was a devout Christian and strict disciplinarian who raised all of her children in the faith to the point where her second child, Rev. Osei Asibey, became a pastor.

As the current Chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Rex Omar is a well-known and multi-award-winning musician from Ghana.
