According to a report by Citi FM on Friday, 30th May, 20250President John Dramani Mahama has warned all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to use government funds wisely or risk being removed from their positions.

Speaking during his Thank-You tour in the Bono East Region on Friday, May 30, 2025, the President announced that the government is about to release the first part of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the year. This fund helps local assemblies carry out development projects and provide basic services for the people in their areas.

President Mahama explained that 80% of the money will be sent directly to the various regions, and MMDCEs will be in charge of how the money is spent. However, he made it clear that they must follow the government’s guidelines when using the funds.

“The Minister of Finance will soon release the first quarter of the District Assemblies Common Fund,” Mahama said. “You [MMDCEs] will receive clear instructions, which were approved during the last Cabinet meeting, on how to spend the money. These instructions will serve as your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).”

He further explained that these KPIs will help the government assess the performance of every MMDCE every year. If an MMDCE fails to use the money properly or does not deliver on their duties, they will be removed from office.

This warning comes at a time when the government is facing criticism from the opposition. Some members of the Minority in Parliament have accused the Finance Minister of delaying the release of important funds even though the money is available.

President Mahama’s message shows that his administration is serious about accountability and performance at the local government level. He is expected to continue his tour in the Bono Region after the Bono East visit.
