Tensions are rising in the Ashanti Region as a former Suame Municipal Chief Executive has issued a stern warning to the NDC, urging the party not to sideline Kumasi by downgrading the iconic Suame Interchange.

The former MCE stressed that the interchange is a vital artery for trade, traffic flow, and economic activity in the region, and any attempt to diminish its status could spark public outrage and political backlash. “Kumasi cannot be ignored,” he reportedly declared, “and the people will hold those responsible accountable if the interchange is undermined.”

Political observers say the comments are likely to intensify debates over infrastructure development, regional equity, and the balancing of political promises ahead of upcoming elections. Residents and business operators in Suame have also voiced concerns that a downgrade could disrupt commerce and daily commuting.

The warning comes at a time when national attention is focused on infrastructure policy and party commitments, highlighting the sensitive interplay between development decisions and political loyalty.

As the NDC considers its next steps, one thing is certain: any perceived slight against Kumasi’s infrastructure could ignite a storm of public discontent.
