Precious Mensah, a plus-size dancer from Ghana, has called for changes to make life easier for plus-size people.
The winner of the De Di Asa dance competition, better known as PM Reigns, demonstrates how society prioritizes slim people over plus-size individuals.
She shared with BBC Pidgin Favour Nunoo how, due to her size, she was unable to travel to Dubai in 2019.
Miss Mensah said, “I be that type of person who dey like to travel and experience the world, but unfortunately my first travel experience did not happen for the sake of my size.”
She continued, “I go through so many things… People go see you in town de say you’re too fat, we fit get your bra and pants or you dey sew them?”
Once, they tried to kick me off of public transportation so they could charge her for two people, but she said no.
Miss Mensah talked about how plus-size people like to socialize and have fun, but restaurants, movie theaters, and other places don’t cater to them.
She appeals to event organizers, restaurants, and movie theaters to provide free chairs so that people of all shapes and sizes can patronize them.
