The Office of the President and Government (OPAG) has strongly condemned recent abusive and derogatory remarks directed at President John Mahama and the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Mahama. The statements, which circulated widely on social media, have drawn widespread criticism from government officials and civil society organizations.

In an official release, OPAG described the comments as “unacceptable, disrespectful, and unbecoming of a democratic society.” The office emphasized that public discourse should remain civil and focused on issues rather than personal attacks.

Authorities further warned that individuals engaging in such behavior risk legal consequences, as Ghana’s laws prohibit libelous and harmful speech against public officials. OPAG called on citizens to engage in constructive dialogue and to respect the dignity of national leaders, regardless of political affiliations.

The condemnation comes amid rising political tensions and an increasingly polarized online environment. OPAG’s statement underscores the importance of promoting respectful communication and maintaining the integrity of public discourse.

The office concluded by urging the public to prioritize unity, civility, and national interest over personal attacks in both online and offline conversations.
