Nigeria: Militia group kills 3 soldiers and 2 vigilantes in Nasarawa

A militia group terrorizing parts of Nasarawa State has killed at least three soldiers and two members of a vigilante group.

The sad news was confirmed by the Chairman of the LGA, Abdullahi Tashas, and the state lawmaker representing the Ugya-Umaisha constituency, Ibrahim Saad.

The attack happened when the attackers ambushed the soldiers in the state’s Katakpa community in the Toto local government area.

Sources claim that despite multiple meetings called by the state government to put an end to the fighting, the Bassa and Egbira communities in the Toto LGA have been at war over boundary demarcation.

They clarified that the soldiers had been deployed to maintain peace in the region after the militia group had repeatedly attacked Toto communities. It was claimed that the soldiers had been ambushed and killed by the same Bassa militia.

At the time of filing this report, the Nigerian army had not yet responded to the incident.
