The National Security team has visited the home of Maxwell Kofi Jumah, a former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries and top member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as part of investigations into state-owned vehicles believed to be in his possession.
The visit took place at about 5:00 a.m. Mr. Jumah was not at home when the team arrived.
According to Citi News report on Friday, 16th May, 2025, the operation was part of ongoing investigations into how Mr. Jumah allegedly acquired some government vehicles and mismanaged company resources during his time as GIHOC boss under the previous NPP government.
One of the main issues being investigated is how Mr. Jumah bought a luxurious Genesis G90 saloon car. The car, originally worth more than $100,000, was sold to him for only GHS 4,943.11. This discount was approved by a 2019 letter from the GIHOC Board, based on his conditions of service. However, the State Transport Corporation later valued the car at GHS 98,862.00, raising questions about the fairness of the deal.
In addition to the Genesis car, Mr. Jumah is accused of keeping two more government vehicles without official approval. One of these is an Audi, said to be worth over $60,000. Reports claim that after the investigations began, he instructed his security staff to return the vehicles. One has already been recovered and taken to Accra.
There are also serious claims that Mr. Jumah inflated staff numbers at GIHOC, which increased the company’s expenses. Another allegation is that he sold company properties in Tema, valued at over $700,000, without approval from the appropriate authorities.
The National Security’s action comes as the government intensifies efforts to retrieve misused state assets. Investigations are still ongoing, and more updates are expected in the coming days.
