The mother of Stephen Agyekum, an 18-year-old student who died in a factory fire at Kronum-Afrancho in the Ashanti region, has expressed her sorrows over the fact that her son was merely there to help a church member who owned the building.

Stephen Agyekum died while attempting to use a fire extinguisher to try stopping the fire’s spread as properties worth thousands of cedis were burnt to ashes.

The nearly 10-hour-long fire spread to nearby homes after consuming a plastic recycling facility.

The mother of the deceased, Pokua Agyekum, is inconsolable as friends, family, and admirers gather at the home of the deceased’s parents.

Pokua Agyekum says that her son was merely helping out a friend and a member of their church, not a relative.

This is the third time the plastic waste recycling factory has completely gutted properties in the neighborhood, according to the locals. They have complained repeatedly to have the factor removed from the neighborhood because they are unhappy with where it’s located yet nothing has been done.
