Kwesi Nyantakyi has said that he has reached the pinnacle of his sports career and that there is nothing more to do that he has not done.

Kwesi Nyantakyi was the Ghana Football Association president for 13 years. But for an Anas Aremeyaw Anas Number 12 expose, he would have gone even further than the 13 years he had been at the helm of the nation’s football governing body.

Apart from serving as the Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi was also the owner of Wa All Stars, now known as Legon Cities.

He has also held positions in CAF and FIFA.

A year after his administration as GFA president began, Ghana qualified for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in Germany. That was a massive achievement that made Ghanaians very proud. The feat was repeated in 2010, 2014, and 2022.

Having overseen three World Cup qualifications, Kwesi Nyantakyi can be praised for his achievements.

In the wake of the rumours making the rounds that he could make a comeback to Ghana football, Kwesi Nyantakyi said that he has reached the pinnacle and that there is nothing more to do, instead, he will charter a different path into politics, saying to Onua TV in an interview, “Politics is the ultimate. In all we do…you need political guidance.”

According to the former GFA president, not many people are ahead of him in terms of achievements in sports in the country.

“I have excelled in Sports. You can’t mention three or four people who are famous in sports in Ghana without adding me. I have reached the pinnacle of my career in sports,” he said.

“Apart from Ohene Djan, no one has ever reached where I did in sports. No Ghanaian has served on the FIFA Council. I was the second person after Ohene Djan in the 1960s,” Kwesi Nyantakyi added.

Speaking further, he said that he wants to use his connections and experience to help people in his country in the arena of politics.

“I want to use the knowledge, experience and connections that I have acquired for political influence and help the people of this country,” he said, adding “That is what motivated and encouraged me to see if I can help in that regard.”

Meanwhile, the former GFA president is set to contest for the vacant Ejisu parliamentary seat, after that constituency’s Member of Parliament, John Kumah, died, with bye-elections set to be organized there.

An Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ expose led to the 55-year-old former GFA president being banned from football-related activities by FIFA.
