Ghanaian politician Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has slammed swirling rumours suggesting she’s set to be appointed the country’s next Defence Minister, calling the reports “completely false and baseless.”
The daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings addressed the speculation during a recent press briefing, emphasizing that she has not received any official communication regarding a ministerial post. “I appreciate the trust and confidence people have in me, but let’s be clear — these are just rumours,” she stated firmly.
The speculation gained momentum after unnamed sources claimed she was in contention for the key security portfolio, stirring debates across social media and news outlets. Political analysts noted that such rumours are not uncommon in Ghanaian politics, especially ahead of cabinet reshuffles.
Zanetor, known for her outspoken advocacy on health, youth empowerment, and governance, warned against spreading misinformation. “Ghanaian politics thrives on discourse, but we must not compromise facts. Let’s focus on real issues affecting our citizens,” she added.
While rumours continue to circulate, Zanetor’s statement seems to have cooled the frenzy — for now — reminding the public that in politics, not everything trending is true.
The controversy leaves one question lingering: will Zanetor eventually enter the cabinet in any role, or is this simply a storm of speculation with no grounding in reality?
