Professor Ransford Gyampo, the CEO of Ghana’s Shippers Authority, has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He believes that if the party does not change its ways and bring in new leaders, it should not be allowed to lead Ghana again and not even a village.
Speaking on TV3’s “The Key Points” show on Saturday, May 31, Professor Gyampo said the NPP’s past performance in government was very disappointing. He pointed out that the party was arrogant and did not manage important issues well, such as illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and the country’s power challenges. He said the NPP failed to solve these problems and did not listen to advice.
Professor Gyampo stated that Ghana is currently seeing progress under the new government led by President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to him, the Mahama-led administration has introduced measures that are helping the Ghanaian cedi become stronger against major foreign currencies. The new government has also started working on policies to fight illegal mining, which has damaged many water bodies and lands in Ghana.
The NPP lost both the presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2024. Many political analysts, including Professor Gyampo, believe the loss happened because of poor decisions and leadership. He made it clear that unless the NPP admits its mistakes and brings in fresh and honest leaders, it should not be given the chance to govern again.
Professor Gyampo’s comments have sparked discussions in the political space. Some believe it is time for the NPP to reflect and make serious changes if it wants to return to power in the future. Others see his comments as a wake-up call for political parties to put the interests of the people first.
