I never received credit for writing songs for the Osibisa band – Tumi Ebow Ansa

Renowned Ghanaian musician and actor, Tumi Ebow Ansa, has recently come forward to assert that he has never received due credit for the songs he penned for the well-known Ghanaian-British Afro-rock band, Osibisa.

Among the songs in question is the iconic ‘Welcome Home’ and four others released by the Afro-rock band.

In a candid interview with Mutombo the Poet on ‘If More, Let’s Divide,’ the veteran singer disclosed that his collaboration with the Osibisa band was an experience he usually avoids discussing.

Recounting the early days, he revealed, “I was young, I was very eager, I was free because I was on TV, films, and the music too, so when Osibisa came and out of the blue picked me up and took me to Tunisia, it was an adventure.”

Tumi Ansa further claimed to have written songs such as ‘Welcome Home,’ ‘Woyaya,’ ‘Oranges,’ and ‘The Dawn.’

He expressed his dismay at Osibisa allegedly taking credit for his music and making substantial profits without acknowledging his contributions.

However, responding to the claims, music industry expert Rex Omar, in an interview with Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah on Joy News, challenged Tumi Ebow Ansah to provide evidence of his songwriting to substantiate his ownership claims.

Rex Omar asserted, “If he is the original composer, where is the evidence?… For him to wait all this while to come and say this right now unless he has proven evidence, it will be difficult.”

Addressing the possibility of Tumi reclaiming his rights with evidence, Rex emphasized the need for legal proceedings, saying, “He has to go through some legal issues to claim the rights. I find it difficult how someone can write five songs for a group without the credit being given to him, and he keeps quiet all these years. I mean, it is very difficult.”
