Panic. Shock. Interrogation.
A Nigerian man has sent social media into a frenzy after revealing how he was reportedly invited for questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shortly after ₦2.5 million unexpectedly landed in his bank account.
According to his gripping account, what began as a routine alert quickly spiraled into a nerve-racking ordeal.
“The Credit Alert That Changed Everything”
The man claimed he received a ₦2.5M payment into his account — a transaction he insists was completely legitimate. But before he could fully process the windfall, he allegedly received communication summoning him for questioning.
“I had proof,” he stressed, recounting the tense moment he was confronted about the source of the funds.
The Interrogation
Narrating the encounter, he described being asked to explain the origin of the money and provide documentation to back up his claims. The anti-graft agency, known for cracking down on suspicious financial activity and cybercrime, reportedly flagged the transaction as part of routine monitoring.
With pressure mounting, he presented what he says were clear records — agreements, chats, and transaction details — to prove the payment was for legitimate business.
Cleared — But Shaken
According to him, once officials reviewed the evidence, the tension eased. He was allegedly allowed to go after satisfying their inquiries.
Still, the experience left him rattled.
Social media users have since reacted with mixed emotions — some praising the EFCC for vigilance, others expressing concern about how easily ordinary citizens can be caught up in financial scrutiny.
A Cautionary Tale?
Financial analysts say large or unusual inflows can trigger red flags, especially amid intensified crackdowns on fraud and money laundering. They advise individuals to always maintain proper documentation for significant transactions.
For this man, the lesson was simple but sobering: in today’s climate, every naira must be accounted for.
And as his story spreads online, one phrase continues to echo louder than the rest — “I had proof.”
