“I almost lost my life due to pregnancy”– Tima Kumkum

Renowned media personality Cynthia Tima Yeboah, also known as Tima Kumkum, recently shared a terrifying experience she had during her pregnancy, where she narrowly escaped death due to complications arising from her G6PD deficiency.

Tima revealed that she had been unaware of her G6PD deficiency for 25 years, leading to various health challenges throughout her life. It wasn’t until she was pregnant with her son, Jayden, that her condition was finally diagnosed.

Despite experiencing alarming symptoms like bleeding, she initially dismissed them as common pregnancy issues.

However, her condition rapidly deteriorated, putting both herself and her unborn baby in danger.

After being referred to three different hospitals, Tima underwent an emergency caesarian surgery to save both their lives.

Following the surgery, the doctor diagnosed her with an abnormal haemorrhage caused by a Sulphur-based drug pushing her placenta out.

Tima expressed gratitude for being saved at the last minute and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about G6PD deficiency.

Inspired by her near-death experience, Tima has established the Tima Kumkum Foundation to educate and support individuals affected by G6PD deficiency
