Despite this setback, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decided to give Addo another chance to lead the team on a long-term basis following their disappointing performance at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The new era under Addo got off to a rocky start with losses to Nigeria and a draw with Uganda in recent international friendlies. Despite the initial struggles, former player Gyan expressed optimism that Addo could turn things around given time to rebuild the team.
