The people of Lawra in the Upper West Region are in deep sorrow following the death of their newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Muazu. This is according to a report by Joy News on Tuesday, 24th June, 2025.
Family sources confirmed that Alhaji Muazu passed away in Accra on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, after battling an illness. He was sworn into office just a few months ago in April 2025.
According to his relatives, the late MCE had been unwell even before his appointment and visited several health facilities across the country for treatment. Sadly, his condition worsened, leading to his death.
His passing has shocked many people in the Lawra Municipality, especially as the community is still recovering from the recent tragedy where seven students from Lawra Senior High School drowned in the Dikpe River, a tributary of the Black Volta. Alhaji Muazu’s last public duty was to visit the school with the Upper West Regional Security Council to mourn with the bereaved families.
Before becoming MCE, Alhaji Muazu was very active in politics. He was the first Propaganda Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lawra Constituency, a position now called Communications Officer. He also played a key role in two successful parliamentary campaigns for the current Member of Parliament for Lawra, Bede A. Ziedeng.
Professionally, he was a teacher and businessman. He founded Superteck Digital Studios, a multimedia company in the region. Alhaji Muazu completed Wa Secondary School in 1994 as part of the last group of students in the old secondary school system.
He was 53 years old and leaves behind three wives and seven children. His body is expected to be flown to Lawra through Wa on the same day of his passing and will be buried according to Islamic customs.
