Popular Ghanaian actor Richard Kweku Asante, famously known as Kalybos, has commented on the current economic woes of his homeland.
He stated that while the world is grappling with economic difficulties, the situation in Ghana is being exacerbated by its own citizens, particularly business owners. The actor made these remarks during an interview on Accra-based TV3.
Kalybos described the present state of the Ghanaian economy as unrecognizable compared to the past. He lamented the drastic change from an era where citizens worked and earned a decent living to a time of rampant inflation and widespread hardship.
In his opinion, the escalating cost of living in Ghana is not just a product of global economic trends, but also the result of local factors. He pointed out that the inhabitants are inadvertently worsening the situation through their actions. He cited an example of a beverage he used to buy for GHc15, which had surged to $35 in a short period.
The actor expressed his view that the pursuit of personal gains by some individuals is not helping the economy. Kalybos urged Ghanaians to be more conscious of their roles in the economy and avoid actions that would further compound the economic difficulties. His comments underscore the need for collective responsibility in addressing the country’s economic challenges.
