Political tensions are boiling over after members of the parliamentary minority issued a dramatic warning of a nationwide “naked demonstration” in protest of the government’s decision to slash cocoa prices — a move they say will devastate thousands of struggling farmers.

In a fiery reaction to the controversial price reduction, minority lawmakers blasted the policy as “cruel, reckless, and economically destructive,” accusing the government of abandoning the very farmers who sustain one of the country’s most critical industries.

According to the opposition bloc, cocoa farmers are being pushed to the brink as production costs soar while earnings continue to shrink. They argue that the latest price adjustment is the final straw for farmers already battling inflation, rising fertilizer prices, and declining farm productivity.

“The government cannot continue to squeeze cocoa farmers dry,” one minority spokesperson declared during a tense press briefing. “If this decision is not reversed immediately, we will mobilize farmers and citizens across the country for a nationwide naked demonstration to show the depth of their anger and frustration.”

The threat of a “naked protest” — a dramatic form of demonstration intended to symbolize total desperation and betrayal — has already ignited heated debate across political circles and social media.

Supporters of the minority say the warning reflects the raw pain being felt in cocoa-growing communities, where many farmers claim they are no longer able to cover basic production costs. Critics, however, have dismissed the threat as political theatrics designed to stir outrage rather than find real solutions.

Economists warn that the cocoa sector, a pillar of the national economy, could face serious instability if tensions between farmers and policymakers continue to escalate. Ghana remains one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, meaning pricing decisions carry enormous consequences for rural livelihoods and national revenue.

Meanwhile, government officials have defended the pricing adjustment, arguing that it reflects global market realities and is necessary to protect the long-term sustainability of the cocoa industry.

But for the minority, the explanation falls far short.

They insist the government must immediately review the price decision or prepare for what they describe as “the most dramatic protest the country has ever witnessed.”

As the political showdown intensifies, all eyes are now on whether the government will reconsider its stance — or whether the nation is truly heading toward a protest unlike any seen before.
