The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has taken to social media to mock New Patriotic Party (NPP) foot soldiers who gathered at the premises of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in support of their party chairman.
In a Facebook post made on Saturday, May 31, 2025, Professor Gyampo reacted to the recent protests by NPP supporters after their Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, was arrested and detained by EOCO.
According to Prof. Gyampo, while the foot soldiers protested under the hot sun and showed loyalty to their party, the NPP leaders they were supporting simply left the scene in the comfort of their cars, leaving the ordinary supporters to walk home.
In his post, Prof. Gyampo wrote,
“Dear Foot Soldiers who were asked to go mass up at EOCO, did you see that the drivers of the political elites came to pick them and left you to walk back to your homes? Did they give you lift or they insinuated that you were too sweaty? Don’t be used!”
The political science lecturer used his message to advise young people not to allow themselves to be misused by political elites who do not truly care about their well-being.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested in May 2025 over allegations linked to illegal mining and financial misconduct involving his company, Akonta Mining Ltd. His arrest led to massive reactions from NPP supporters, with some foot soldiers storming EOCO’s premises to demand his release.
However, Prof. Gyampo’s post suggests that many of these foot soldiers may not fully understand how little concern their leaders have for them beyond politics.
