The Bank of Ghana has announced the official exchange rates for major foreign currencies for Thursday, May 29, 2025. These rates are used by commercial banks when exchanging foreign money for the Ghanaian cedi.

b

According to the central bank, the exchange rates are based on the average rates used by commercial banks at the end of business on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

For those trading or sending money using the United States Dollar (USD), the buying rate is GH₵10.2749. This means banks will buy one US dollar at that rate. The selling rate is GH₵10.2851, which is the amount you will need to pay if you want to buy one US dollar from the bank.

The British Pound (GBP) also saw new rates. The buying rate is GH₵13.8289, while the selling rate is GH₵13.8438. This means anyone selling a British pound to the bank will receive GH₵13.8289, and those buying the pound from the bank will pay GH₵13.8438.

b

For the Euro (EUR), the buying rate stands at GH₵11.5956 and the selling rate at GH₵11.6061.

These exchange rates are important for businesses, importers, exporters, travelers, and anyone who deals with foreign currency in Ghana. The slight differences between the buying and selling prices are how banks make a profit from currency exchanges.

The Bank of Ghana releases such rates every weekday to guide the public and financial institutions. It is always advisable for Ghanaians to check these rates before doing any foreign exchange transaction.

As the cedi continues to face pressure against major currencies, many people are closely watching these daily rates to understand the strength of Ghana’s economy.
