Residents of Nungua are sounding the alarm after reports emerged of brown, contaminated water flowing from household taps, sparking fears over public health and safety.
Locals described the water as “unsafe” and “foul-smelling,” expressing frustration over the lack of prior warnings from authorities. Social media quickly lit up with images and videos showing murky water running from kitchen and bathroom taps, fueling widespread panic.
Health experts have warned residents to avoid using the water for drinking, cooking, or bathing until the contamination is addressed, citing risks of waterborne diseases. Many are calling on Ghana Water Company Limited to act swiftly to investigate the source and restore safe water supply.
Authorities say they are investigating potential causes, including pipe corrosion, sewage intrusion, or contamination during maintenance works. Meanwhile, residents are resorting to bottled water and community wells, anxiously waiting for a resolution.
The Nungua water crisis highlights ongoing challenges in urban water supply and the urgent need for proper monitoring and infrastructure maintenance to protect public health.
