Accra, Ghana – The skies are turning restless as the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) issues a fresh weather alert, warning of widespread thunderstorms expected to sweep across parts of the country’s northern and transition belt zones.

Residents in the Northern Region and surrounding transition areas are being urged to brace for potentially intense rainfall, thunder activity, and gusty winds as atmospheric conditions become increasingly unstable.

According to forecasters, the weather system building over the region is strong enough to trigger scattered to widespread thunderstorms, with some areas likely to experience heavy downpours within short periods. Authorities caution that the storms could lead to localized flooding, reduced visibility on major roads, and disruptions to outdoor activities.

GMet’s advisory has placed emergency services and local authorities on alert, especially in communities vulnerable to flooding and wind-related damage. Motorists are also being advised to exercise extreme caution, particularly during peak storm hours when visibility may drop sharply.

Meteorologists say the current weather pattern is typical of the seasonal transition, but warn that its intensity could still pose risks if residents fail to take precautionary measures.

As skies darken and storm clouds gather, the warning is clear: the northern and transition belts should prepare for a turbulent spell of weather in the coming hours.
