The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued a weather alert warning that several parts of the country are likely to experience thunderstorms and rainfall this afternoon, urging residents to take the necessary precautions.
According to GMet’s latest forecast, the expected weather conditions will affect parts of the northern, middle, and southern sectors of Ghana, with thunderstorms likely to develop later in the day following periods of sunny and cloudy conditions.
Communities in the northern regions are expected to witness isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall, while portions of the middle belt could experience cloudy skies before thunderstorms set in during the afternoon and evening.
In the southern sector, including parts of Greater Accra, the Central Region, the Western Region, and surrounding areas, residents should also prepare for thunderstorms and intermittent rainfall as weather conditions become unstable.
The Meteorological Agency has advised the public to remain vigilant, especially motorists and residents in flood-prone communities, as heavy downpours could reduce visibility and lead to localized flooding.
GMet further urged the public to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, stay away from open fields, and unplug electrical appliances where necessary to minimize the risk of lightning-related incidents.
The agency continues to monitor weather developments and has encouraged Ghanaians to follow its official updates for the latest forecasts and safety advisories.
With the rainy season in full swing, residents are advised to plan their movements carefully and take appropriate safety measures to protect lives and property.
